Snowed In
Yes, we visited Santa. Unfortunately, even Rima's excellent advice of backing him in didn't work. Within a nano-second of hitting Santa's velvet pants, he screamed his head off.
However, the elves said we have an excellent chance at winning The Best Screaming Shot of 2007 Award. Sa-weet!
When the forecast called for 12 inches of snow, I was initially irritated because we were forced to cancel all our plans and stay in this weekend.
Hello, stupid.
We got our Christmas tree decorated.
We played outside until our extremities froze.
And we watched the best Christmas story ever for the 102nd time.
May you all get snowed in soon. And often.

FIRST
I'm sorry Santa didn't go well. I bet he does better next year?
I will happily lend you our snow. I can't like it. I was outside in the 75 degree weather today in short sleeves & thinking it couldn't get any better.
But, the movie? Ranks up there with White Christmas and It's a Wonderful Life as the greatest holiday movies EVAH!
Aw, sorry your Santa visit didn't go well but those sceaming shots are funny to look back on.
We still don't have Santa shots!
Love the snowsuit pic...I was going to say it reminded me of my favorite movie...then I saw the Christmas story lamp!
I bid on one of those on Ebay once. I thought it would be a hoot to have out at Christmas.
Please send some snow my way. I have a theory that if it is going to be cold, it should be snowing. I do not approve of rain in December. I would approve of 12 inches of white stuff, though.
Not likely to happen here - going to be in the 80's this week - I am so jealous. Have fun in the snow. Kellan
Sorry about Santa...it will get better!
Snowed in? Woo Hoo! LOVE being snowed in! We have about 7 inches here...
What's a childhood without a picture screaming on Santa's lap, I ask? You're just giving little Bear a well-rounded childhood :-D
Super jealous about the snow. I've heard that if you build a snowman, he'll shovel your driveway. This is obviously true, right? Right?!?
aww, perfect weekend.
i love weekends like that.
Yep, we got snow too. But I didn't get our tree done. Not exactly sure what I did do either...
I LOVE looking back now at the Santa shots with the kids crying. It's very funny, SAVE them.
No snow in the lower Buckeye state, yet. I LOVE being snowed in, too, though. Doesn't happen often here but it is the BEST. Movies, grilled cheese sandwiches, hot cocoa, blankets: what's not to love?!
Santa. Well, Her Highness sat on his lap her first Christmas (she was days old) and that was it. Too scary. Even now at 6 days shy of 8 years old, she cannot do it. The boy didn't like the scary Wal-Mart Santa so we will try another but I am not hopeful. sigh.
The Christmas Story is the BEST!
sometimes the purposefully empty days are the best. We got a lot of snow, but it didn't leave us homebound. We, instead were mall-bound. THe whiteness made me want to shop. Curious.
We saw Santa yesterday too. There was no screaming. But my ussually outgoing kids forgot how to both talk and sit up straight. I love the Christmas Story!!
I LOVE snow days!!!
We had one too this weekend and I only freaked out in my head a few times about the kids and cabin fever. That's got to be a record or something. In my house anyway.
I wonder what will happen with Evie and Santa this year. According to Isaac she has Claustrophobia, after all. :)
Sounds like a terrific time--we'll be getting our tree next Monday.
A Christmas Story never gets old. I haven't taken the kids to see Santa yet, maybe I'll do that this week. We just put up our tree tonight.
Sorry your visit to Santa was not a success....I remember days like those!
We are currently getting major ice on top of our snow....lovely! I hate it. Ready for spring. Can you tell I hate winter? As long as I don't have to go out in it though....it IS kind of nice to hang by the fire and sip cocoa and curl up with a good book. Your tree looks pretty!! We are doing our next weekend.
Ooooh, I'm hardly envious at all. I love snow!
As for the Santa shoot... better luck next year. :)
We aren't snowed in, it's a nasty sleet/rain/snow mix. It's heavy, wet and I can't send the kids out to play in it. Bah humbug- I hate this stuff. If that isn't enough, throw in some gusty wind, you know the kind that make everything blow sideways and around, you know so no matter which way you are walking it is hitting you in the face. Yuck! On the upside, we've stayed home as much as possible, decorated the tree and house and got a few chores done as well. It's a good feeling to cross a few things off the to do list. Hope you had a wonderful weekend.
Off topic but on my mind:
Suburban Oblivion wrote about Blogger/Google not allowing off-site links (as when you select "other" for identity) This is not my site. I read this post about solutions.
This is my site
It sounds like the perfect weekend. I hope we some snow this winter, but I am not counting on it.
I too have seen the Christmas storry 103 times.
I like that photo in the snow. Playing outside until your extremities froze sounds like a lot of fun. Especially for little kids.
I don't think we are going to attempt Santa this year...I just know the team will scream their heads off...Does that make me a bad mommy???
I love snow days. But it never snows where I live.
LOL -- 'backing him in' :)
I'm glad you had a great weekend -- we got snowed in, too!
Heidi
Aw! Poor little guy! I bet the photo is pretty sweet though.
We were ice-bound ourselves this weekend. I was so happy to get out of the house today!
-HH
We love A Christmas Story - need to get it into the rotation this week.
Wow! At least you had the tree in hand so you could decorate it.
Oh My--very fearful of the screams Baby ChubChub will produce when I attempt to plop her on Santa's lap. Will suggest Scream of the Year award to Santa's helpers after they take their hands off their pointy ears. My son has been arguing that it's not Christmas time because there is no snow. Sweetie, we live in California. You will never ever ever have a White Christmas.
lucky you.
I LOVE getting snowed in. where we live ,that doesn't usually happen until Jan or Feb... and sometimes just once in a year.
No snow here yet... but we did get our tree decorated!
HAHA, sorry about the screaming Santa shot. Hopefully its still cute. I hate hate hate snow. Hopefully we are not snowed in much this year.
That was me above - stupid wrong account.
Er, sorry my recommended Santa strategy didn't work out. But it sounds like you still had a pretty fantabulous weekend!
BTW, I only live a stone's throw from the original Christmas Story house. They have a museum there now, too. And I think they might even sell leg lamps!
Gawd, I love that movie!
Sounds like a lovely weekend, despite the falling of tears and snow.
Congrats on the tree decorating. And as long as I can see that movie sans commercials, I'm good.
I can't wait for a snow day! Hopefully *after* the TV is fixed! :)
that's my favorite Xmas movie, too.
I once saw Peter Billingsly at a bar in Los Angeles. With Vince Vaughn.
Ah, most of the time the best time of our lives are spent indoors... with a bit of outside the yard. :D
My husband forces me to watch that movie every time it comes on television. And, while I agree it is probably the best Christmas movie ever made, seeing it twenty times a year is getting a wee bit old.
Did I mention we have a leg lamp in our front window? Yes, he likes it that much.
I always understood why kids freaked out on Santa's knee. Mall Santas are usually largely unemployed old dudes with really gross breath. The kind you would warn your kids about if you hadn't thought they should experience "meeting Santa".
But then, I'm warped. I told A.B.B that the Santa in the mall was hired by the mall so the kids would drag their parents to shop there. It suited him just fine, and no creepy old man laps.
I WANT SOME SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!
sorry - I just live in a snow vacuum where it manages to by-pass us ALL THE TIME and it makes me want to throw a tantrum!
Blessings,
K
Am sorry about the Santa trip...with kids, gotta expect these things.. BTW, I love the Christmas Story too.
We went to see Santa too- but Hailey clung to me for dear life. So we will try again this week and see if she'll sit on his lap.
We're getting lots of snow too. I had plans of Christmas shopping for yesterday and today- but instead Hailey and I are "stuck" at home. It's kinda nice though.
I love those kind of days :) These things have a way of working themselves out :)
I figure I'll be brave enough to do the Santa visit on lap when the kids are...12?
The lamp picture made me laugh--I have a friend who made a replica of it for his wife for Christmas a few years ago. Trust me when I say it's creepy!
