WFMW - Recycle Your Cell
Do you have old cellphones lying around? We did after switching to a cheaper pre-paid cellphone service. Our old cellphones were 3 years old and pretty much obsolete.
After doing some research we found RIP Mobile. RIP Mobile pays you (via gift cards or via PayPal) for your old cellphones. They reformat and recycle the phones for other parts of the world to then use. They incur all shipping costs. Our two old cellphones in total were worth $25. Not bad, considering they were just collecting dust.
You can see how much your old phones are worth on their site before doing anything (to see if it's worth the hassle).
You can erase your cellphone data yourself (check out the Cell Phone Data Eraser tool) or they automatically erase it for you. Here's exactly how it all works and here are some common FAQs.
Perhaps the coolest part (in addition to the cash of course) is you are helping reduce e-waste.

How old do they take? I have a funky old motorola flip phone the size of a small shoe (as well as a few other phones)

This is a great tip. In the past I have given them away as part of the program where they are then passed on to battered women in need. But it is nice to have an option where you get some money back too if you need it.
The other thing that has happened with our old cell phones is they become toys for the children. They can pretend to have a cell phone for their pretend play.
